There were lots of England fans but I’m really not sure how many were there.

There were only a limited amount of England supporters out there. I don’t know how many – but thousands? I don’t think anybody really knows how many went. A lot of different numbers are bandied about. The FA apparently asked for 16,000 tickets, which was the largest non-Mexican allocation. I, personally, think this figure is rather fanciful. Apparently there were 5,000 England supporters at the Brazil game and 2,000 at the West Germany game. So what happened to the other 3,000 supporters between that group game and the quarter final? Surely they didn’t go home.

There was a distinct lack of lager louts. There were no problems I know of in Mexico but to be fair, there was virtually no trouble in Portugal in 2004 nor in Germany in 2008. I don’t recall anybody getting arrested in the whole month. End of Chapter - Mexico70 Sombrero
